DIY Mirror Frame With Wood Trim

If you have mirror panels installed on your walls, you'll need something around the edges of those mirrors to dress them out, covering up the joint between the mirrors and the wall. The easiest way to do this is often to simply frame it the way you would a picture or a window. Using flat wood trim with mitered ends can allow you to tie the mirror edges into the rest of the room, if you use the same kind of trim used on the floor and ceilings. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the upper horizontal edge of the mirror, from the two top corners. Transfer the measurement to a piece of trim, putting two marks along the bottom of the piece, with the measured distance between them.

    • 2

Set the trim face-up on your miter saw, so the marked bottom edge is against the rail of the saw. Move the trim so one mark is in front of the blade.

    • 3

Turn the blade 45 degrees outward, pointing at the close end of the trim. Cut it.

    • 4

Slide the trim so the second mark is in front of the blade. Swivel the blade to point 45 degrees in the other direction. Cut it.

    • 5

Set the piece along the top of the mirror, on the wall, with the two mitered ends spanning out and up from the two upper corners of the mirror. Secure it with your trim nailer, ensuring you shoot the nails into the wall and not into the mirror.

    • 6

Cut and install the trim for the remaining three edges of the mirror in the same manner. Butt the ends of the trim tightly to each other at the corners, so the 45-degree cuts combine to total 90 degrees.
