1
Shampoo your hair with a product formulated for curly hair. Look for a shampoo with no harsh detergents such as alcohol that strip oil off the hair. Rinse out the shampoo in cool water which is better for damaged hair than hot water. Hot water dries out the hair and is a form of heat damage.

2
Condition your hair after every shampoo. Apply a moisturizing conditioner to hair, wait two to three minutes, and then comb out the tangles with a wide-tooth comb. Start combing at the ends of the hair and work up to the roots. Rinse out the hair with cool water.

Let the hair dry naturally. Towel drying the hair is another option, but do not rub the hair with the towel as this only causes tangles. Avoid blow dryers, but if you use them, use the lowest setting. Also apply a heat protecting lotion to the hair beforehand. These products act as a barrier to the heat.

Use a deep conditioner. Heat up the olive oil on the stove or in the microwave and apply to the head. Put on a shower cap or a conditioning cap to retain the heat. Keep the oil on the hair for up to one hour. A deep conditioning treatment once or twice a month helps to restore moisture to damaged curly hair. Deep condition your hair before shampooing.

Apply a leave-in conditioner for curly hair. You can use some leave-in conditioners daily or a few times a week. These products add moisture to curly hair and cut down on the dryness.
