Instructions

    • 1

Roll out the fondant to make it smooth and pliable. It is easier if you are using fondant that is already brown. If it is not, this is the time to add brown food coloring. Purchase fondant at restaurant supply stores or craft stores.

    • 2

Pull off a good amount of fondant for the body. The amount you need depends on the size moose you are making. Mold it into a rough oval log shape.

    • 3

Pull off another section for the head. This should be about a quarter of the size of the body piece. Again, mold it into a log shape. Use your fingernail or the tip of a pencil to put two dot eyes and a mouth on the shape.

    • 4

Brush a small amount of water on the base of the head piece with a small paintbrush; affix it to the body. The water will break down the sugars and help it stick.

    • 5

Roll out a piece of light brown fondant with a rolling pin. Cut out small antlers with a knife. Put water on the base and put them on the head.

    • 6

Roll out four legs from dark brown fondant. Insert a toothpick into each leg to make it sturdy. If your moose is large and needs legs that are longer than a toothpick, use a wooden skewer cut to the appropriate size. Keep in mind that you will need to take out the toothpick before eating the moose.

    • 7

Insert the end of the skewer or toothpick into the base of the moose's body.

    • 8

Roll small eyes from the black fondant. Make a nose as well. Brush water on the back and stick them to the face of the moose.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use your imagination and creativity. The moose can be standing or sitting. For a cartoonish moose, make large eyelashes or eye shadow. Eyelashes can be make from a small piece of rolled fondant cut into a fringe.
