Step 1
Provide adequate lighting for checking makeup. Install the light switch in a spot that's easy to find.
-
Step 2
Equip the sink with a faucet that functions smoothly and efficiently, and does not splash water.
-
Step 3
Make sure the mirror is large and well-lit.
-
Step 4
Install a ventilation fan to remove moisture and odors.
-
Step 5
Provide fresh towels.
-
Step 6
Set out a dish of mild potpourri and, when guests are expected, burn a candle with a scent compatible to the potpourri.
-
Step 7
Deck the window in a treatment that maintains privacy but admits light.
-
Step 8
Leave floors bare, if possible, to avoid a tripping hazard. If you do use a rug, be sure it grips the floor snugly; a latex-backed mat is a good choice.
-
Step 9
Minimize accessories - powder rooms are usually small, and a guest could inadvertently knock a fragile item over - but remember that a small vase of fresh flowers or a potted plant is a welcome touch.
-
Step 10
Provide facial tissue.
-
Step 11
Place a stash of spare toilet paper where guests can find it easily. When guests are expected, check the roll on the dispenser to make sure it's not low.
-
Step 12
Keep the powder room gender neutral.
-
Step 13
Offer thoughtful amenities - mouthwash, disposable cups, hand lotion - if you have enough space.
