How to Stop Finder.Cox.Net Hijacking

Many Internet service providers (ISPs) have their own search pages that appear when you type a nonexistent address into your browser's address bar. These pages have sponsored results that are typically not helpful whatsoever to aid you in getting to your original destination and generate a source of revenue for your ISP. If you would rather be redirected to a 404 error page indicating that the site does not exist, as the Internet originally intended, change the domain name servers (DNS) in your network options.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start," then select "Control Panel" from the menu.

    • 2

      Click "Network and Sharing Center."

    • 3

Select "Change Adapter Settings" from the menu on the left side of the screen, then right-click your local area connection and click "Properties."

    • 4

Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and choose "Properties."

    • 5

Click the tab labeled "Use the following DNS server addresses" and enter "68.105.28.13" for the preferred DNS and "68.105.29.13" for the alternate DNS address.

    • 6

Click "OK," then close the Properties box to complete the process.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to return to using Cox's finder page, go back into the settings and erase the custom DNS addresses you entered.
