Import toolbars from older versions of AutoCAD to AutoCAD 2011.

AutoCAD users may find it annoying when Autodesk (the program's manufacturer) comes out with a new yearly version and the toolbar, buttons and tools are redesigned. When installing the 2011 version of the application, you may want to avoid taking the time to learn the new version's toolbars and tools. To do this, you can customize the AutoCAD 2011 by transferring your old settings and toolbars to the new program.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the “Start” icon and select “Programs.”

    • 2

Locate and open the new version of AutoCAD. A "Migrate Custom Settings" box will tell you that you can transfer settings from previously installed versions. (This box only appears when you open the program for the first time.) Click the box to open the window.

    • 3

Click the windows “Start” icon and look for the AutoCAD folder under the “Programs” category if you have already started using AutoCAD 2011 and closed the Migrate Settings window when it appeared. Locate the "Migrate Settings" tool in this folder and click it twice to open the application.

Choose the AutoCAD version from which you wish to transfer the settings. Select the version from the list of versions that are installed on the computer.

    • 5

Scroll through the "Custom Settings" list and select the settings that you wish to import to AutoCAD 2011. Click “OK.” Your old toolbars and settings will appear in AutoCAD 2011.
