How to Enable Full AbiWord Functions in the Write Activity
AbiWord is an open-source word processing program. It was developed and released for free by The AbiWord Team in 1998, and has been continually developed since that date. The full-featured alternative to Microsoft Office is available for Mac OS X, Windows PCs and Linux operating systems. In some systems, where AbiWord is pre-installed, many of the features of the program are disabled. Administrative access is necessary to restore the full functions of AbiWord.

1
Open the "Terminal" activity in Linux by going to "Applications" in the Program Menu. Type "su" for the superuser function, which allows you to make administrative changes.
-
2
Type "cd /usr/share/activities/Write.activity" and "mv keybindings.xml keybindings.xml.orig". This backs up the keybindings file, which is recreated when you open AbiWord. In Windows, you can navigate to "C:\Program Files\AbiWord\Write" and rename "keybindings.xml" to "keybindings.xml.orig."
