How to Conduct a Great Video Interview
With the right amount of research and preparation, you can have a successful and effective video interview that flows smoothly. Interviews require a certain level of professionalism while still remaining personable -- two qualities that are important especially during a video interview. Unlike print interviews, video interviews are going to catch facial expressions, body movements and awkward pauses that will be hard to edit out, which is why the preparations are so important.

1
Research the person before your interview including his background, business affiliations, education, credentials and other pertinent information. Use the knowledge you have gained to write out the specific questions you are going to ask during the interview.
-
2
Send your list of questions to the person who will be interviewed to help her be more prepared with her answers. This gives her the chance to review them and not be caught off-guard during the interview so that it is a more smooth process.

-
3
Talk to the interviewee for a few minutes off-camera before you start the interview. This will give you a chance to get to know him as well as allow the interviewee to become more relaxed in front of the camera and more comfortable speaking with you. This is especially important for someone who is camera-shy.
-
4
Angle the chairs to where the camera can see the interviewee head-on as well as your profile. The chairs should be across from each other so you can maintain eye contact and your chair should be close to the camera but not directly in front of it.
-
5
Remain pleasant, polite and personable throughout the interview to keep your interviewee at ease and for a professional final result. Maintain a relaxed demeanor and avoid being authoritative. The interview should be more like a conversation than an interrogation.
-
6
Avoid distracting the viewer during the video interview, such as shaking your legs, thumping your feet, shifting in your chair or fiddling.
