How to Decorate a Terracotta Pot With Hearts
Terracotta clay plant pots are as versatile as they are inexpensive. Although the pots look plain when purchased, you can personalize them using paints and stencils in just a few minutes. If you're treating a loved one to a houseplant for Valentine's Day, an anniversary or any other romantic occasion, decorate a terracotta pot with hearts for a touch of whimsy. Things You'll Need
- Clear, acrylic primer
- Small paintbrushes
- Water-based acrylic paint
- Heart-shaped stencils
- Indoor/outdoor acrylic spray sealant

Wash the terracotta plant pot with warm, soapy water to remove any dirt or residue. Dry the pot with a clean cloth.

Paint the outside of the pot with clear primer. Allow the primer to thoroughly dry before continuing the project.

Place a heart-shaped stencil against the pot. Dip a small paintbrush into red or pink water-based acrylic paint and fill in the stencil to transfer the design to the pot. Create heart designs all over the pot or just around the rim, depending on your preferences. Allow the paint to dry according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

Spray the painted pot with two coats of indoor/outdoor acrylic sealant to protect the heart designs. Let the sealant dry between coats.
