How to Remove the Float Valve in a GE Profile Dishwasher

If you notice water slowly leaking from the bottom of your GE profile dishwasher, then the problem likely is due to a broken or faulty float valve, also known as a float switch. The float switch is a small electronic component that determines when water has filled up the dishwasher and then triggers the flow of water to be shut off. Removing and replacing the float valve is a simple task once you've accessed the inside of your dishwasher unit.

Things You'll Need

• Screwdriver
• Needle nose pliers

Instructions

1. Move your dishwasher away from the wall, then disconnect the power supply from the AC wall outlet.

2. Turn the water supply valve under your sink clockwise to shut it off.

3. Remove the two screws from the bottom panel of the GE dishwasher using a screwdriver.

4. Locate the float switch component on the front left side within the dishwasher unit.

5. Detach the two wires attached to the float switch using needle nose pliers.

6. Loosen the screw attached to the float switch using a screwdriver, then gently pull the switch component out of the unit.

7. Insert a new float switch into the float assembly within the unit, then replace the switch component in the unit and tighten the screw to the switch.

8. Reattach the two wires to the float switch, then connect the bottom panel back onto the dishwasher.

9. Reinsert the two screws into the front panel. Turn the water supply valve back to the "On" position, then reconnect the power supply.
