Turn your little girl's bed into one fit for a princess.

If your little girl has ambitions to be a princess, make her dreams come true by making a simple bed canopy. Bed canopies will add a touch of romance to her bedroom decor and can help get even the most reluctant of sleepers into bed. You can use colored fabrics for a more modern look or chiffon for a softer, fairytale appearance. To install the canopy, you must put a hook in the ceiling to hang it from. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Fold over two inches of fabric on one of the 50-inch sides. Fold the fabric over a second time, this time making a 5 inch hem. Secure the hem with pins. Sew the hem along the folded edge with the sewing machine. Repeat for the other curtain.

    • 2

Unscrew the embroidery ring and take out the small, inside ring. Thread the large ring through the 5-inch hems you just made on both curtains. Ensure that the right side of the fabric faces the outside and the wrong side faces the inside of the embroidery ring. Screw the ring closed.

    • 3

Tie both ribbons in bows at the gaps between the curtains. Both sides of the bow must be the same size.

    • 4

Thread the needle and tie it off at the end. Starting from the back, sew through each knot in the bow so that the bows cannot come undone.

    • 5

Find an appropriate spot in the middle of the bed for the pot ring. It should be about 1/3 of the way from the head of the bed. Screw the pot holder into the ceiling. Ensure that it is securely attached before hanging your canopy.

    • 6

Thread the hooks on the pot holder through the top of the bow knots. Drape the fabric over the bed.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can create curtain ties or use ribbons to hold back the curtains when not in use.

  • Add additional ribbons or twinkle lights as decorations.

  • Paste decorative appliquéd items, toy dragonflies and butterflies or plastic flowers to the canopy for decoration.

  • You can hem the other end of the fabric if you are using one that frays.
