How to Make a Cardboard Stage
If you've got a big cardboard box and some standard craft supplies, you have all the materials you need to quickly and easily create a cardboard stage for puppet theater. Whether it's a rainy day or you just want some quality family time, a puppet show with homemade materials is a good way to wile away the hours. You can make the stage yourself or enlist the kids to help you out for a family craft project.

1
Cut out the top and bottom flaps of the box with the scissors. Save two of the flaps.
-
2
Decorate one side of the inside of the box with a backdrop for your theater by gluing construction paper to it. Or, create a variety of scenes on pieces of paper and simply clip it to the back of the box when you want to change the scene.
-
-
3
Cut out a window in the front side of the box, opposite the side with the backdrop.
-
4
Tape two of the flaps you cut out earlier to both sides of the front end of the box to create two "doors" for the theater that you can use to cover up the front window when finished with a play or while making a scene change.
-
5
Glue book ends to either side of the box, which will give the theater stability.
-
6
Decorate the outside of the theater with markers, if desired.
-
7
Place the theater on a table with the open sides facing the ceiling and floor, with half of it on the table and half hanging off. Hold a play by sitting under the table and putting your puppets up through the bottom opening.
