How to Install a PS2 Eyetoy As a Webcam for MSN

The PlayStation 2 or PS2 EyeToy is a webcam peripheral intended to be used by official PlayStation 2 games and utilities. Although Sony never released official drivers to make the EyeToy compatible with computers, unofficial drivers were released shortly after the EyeToy to make it compatible with the PC. The EyeToy functions like any other webcam once installed, allowing you to use it with instant messaging programs such as MSN Messenger for video and voice chat.

      Connect the EyeToy to any USB port on your computer. Click the "Start" button in the Windows taskbar, type "Device Manager" into the search bar and click the "Device Manager" icon. Click the + symbol to the left of "Imaging Devices." The name of the EyeToy will be displayed.

      Download the driver that corresponds with the name of your EyeToy and save it to the desktop. Right-click the driver and click "Extract to Here." The contents of the driver will be placed in a folder on the desktop.

      Right-click the name of the EyeToy and click "Update Driver." The Hardware Update Wizard will open. Select "No, not this time" and click "Next." Click "Search for the best driver in these locations," click the "Browse" button and select the folder with the extracted drivers.

      Click the "Continue Anyway" button to ignore the warning. Click "OK" when the unreadable window pops up. Click "Yes" to set the Power Frequency. Click "Finish" to complete the installation.

      Open and sign into your MSN Messenger account. Click the webcam icon under your profile icon and click "Show my webcam."
