A sticky flypaper trap can help eliminate flies.

People dislike flies because they are associated with unsanitary conditions. When flies manage to infiltrate your home, you'll most likely find them on or around a light source. It's believed that light attracts flies because they mistake it for the moon, which they use for navigational purposes. Because flies are cold-blooded, they are also drawn to the heat of the light. To eliminate the unwanted pests, incorporate some simple fly terminating techniques. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Wait for the fly to remove itself from the chandelier. Swat it with a fly swatter when it settles on a solid surface. Avoid swatting the fly while it's on the light source because this may damage the chandelier.

    • 2

Use flying insect spray, according to packaging instructions, to kill flies. Aim the nozzle of a can of flying insect spray at the flies. Stand approximately 2 feet away and spray for 5 to 10 seconds. Spray the insects when they are flying or while they sit on the chandelier. The spray stops the flies in their tracks and kills them.

    • 3

Hang sticky fly traps vertically from the ceiling near the chandelier. Any remaining flies or newly appearing flies stick to the traps when they fly and touch them.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep flies out of your home. Place screens on doors and windows to make it hard for flies to enter your home. Avoid opening doors and windows for long periods and close all vents that can be used as an entry to your home.

  • Clean your home regularly to avoid unsanitary conditions that attract flies. Take out the garbage regularly; seal food in airtight containers; remove leftover pet food and pet droppings; sweep and vacuum regularly to get rid of food particles on the floor.
