How to Assemble Linked Butterfly Valves
A butterfly valve controls the flow of liquid through pipes with a rotating disc mechanism that flaps like a butterfly’s wing. A handle on the valve is turned to open and close the disc to permit, prevent and control the flow. A large piping system, like the one found in your home, often contains multiple butterfly valves. Each valve is linked by segments of pipe and controls a specific quadrant of the system. A butterfly valve connects to the existing pipe in your home. Once you've connected them, assemble each butterfly linked to the piping system. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Pry off the packing retainer ring attached to the groove on the top of the valve shaft with a flat head screwdriver.
-
2
Grab the spacer with your fingers and remove it from the valve shaft.
-
-
3
Grab the packing material with needle nose pliers and remove it from the valve shaft.
-
4
Repeat with the bottom of the valve shaft. Save the packing material.
-
5
Insert the provided upper bearing into the top of the valve body. Push the bearing into the valve body with your hands. Repeat with the provided lower bearing on the bottom of the valve body.
-
6
Insert the lower packing material into the bottom of the valve body. Insert the provided lower spacer into the bottom of the valve body.
-
7
Align the mounting holes on the lower cover plate with the mounting holes on the bottom of the valve body. Slide a provided washer onto each of the provided cap screws. Insert a cap screw into each hole and tighten with a screwdriver.
-
8
Insert the provided upper bushing into the top of the valve body. Insert the upper packing material into the top of the valve body. Insert the provided upper spacer into the top of the valve body.
-
9
Push the packing retainer ring onto the groove on the top of the valve stem.
-
10
Lubricate the stem of the provided disc and the seat with silicone oil. The seat is the opening on the inside of the bottom portion of the valve body in which the disc stem is inserted.
-
11
Align the flat side of the disc so it faces the disc torque plug hole. Insert the disc into the valve body. The stem should sit inside of the seat. Insert the provided torque bolt into the torque plug hole. Tighten the bolt to the manufacturer’s recommended torque with a torque wrench.
