How to Build an Arbor Press

An arbor press uses a wheel and a lever to create downward pressure used to press things together. It is made up of a main frame and a press bar installed vertically.   • Acetone
  • Hammer
  • No. 000 steel wool
  • Wood
  • Diamond-coated file
  • Drill press

      Lower the drill press to its lowest possible level.

      Scrub the arbor and socket with the No. 000 steel wool to remove grease or particles.

      Take the chuck key and retract the gripping jaws at the end of the arbor.

      Wipe the surfaces of the arbor and socket with acetone. Place the arbor in the socket.

    • 5

      Set a piece of wood at the end of the arbor and tap the bottom of the wood with your hammer to set the arbor into the drill press socket.
