How to Knit Without the Work Curling
At its best, curled knitting is annoying and tough to work with. At its worst, curling can completely ruin the look of a garment that is supposed to lay flat. Knit stitches are shorter and narrower than purl stitches, so a garment with more knit stitches on one side will curl. Luckily, you can prevent your work from curling with several techniques.

Choose a different stitch. Stockinette stitch (one row of knit, one row of purl) will always curl. However, stitches like garter (all knits) and knit one, purl one ribbing will not curl. Use a stitch with an equal number of knits and purls on both sides of the piece to keep your work from curling.

Add a border to the piece. Knit the first and last two stitches on each row or do two stitches of ribbing on each end. This method varies in success depending on the type of work and material.

Block the work when you are finished. Wet the piece in lukewarm water. Do not agitate the work or you will start the felting process. Gently press the work dry. Lay the item flat on a padded board or lay it on a pile of towels on a bed or table. While moving the garment to the blocking board, make sure you support the wet material with both hands to keep it from stretching.
