How To Flycam in Second Life

The flycam function in "Second Life" gives you a first person perspective of any environment in the game. Furthermore, it allows you to freely move around an environment to gain a new perspective when building, making a movie or familiarizing yourself with the game world. Enabling, configuring and using the flycam is straightforward. Through the many configurable options, you can customize how the flycam works to make it feel as natural as possible.

      Click the "View Menu" and click on "Joystick Flycam" to enable flycam mode. Alternatively, press "Alt," Shift" and "F" on the keyboard simultaneously to enable flycam mode.

      Use the mouse and arrow key or a joystick to navigate through the game environment in which you enabled the flycam.

      Disable the flycam using the same method you used to enable it to regain control of your "Second Life" avatar.

      Configure the mouse and keyboard functions of the flycam to make it feel more natural by clicking "Edit," "Preferences" and "Input and Camera." Change the mouse sensitivity, adjust camera options and set auto fly options to fit your preferences.

      Enable and configure flycam control using a joystick by clicking "Edit," "Preferences," "Input and Camera" and "Joystick Setup." Click the check box next to "Enable Joystick," configure the joystick flycam controls to suit your preferences and click on "Apply" to commit your changes. Enable the flycam function and use the joystick to navigate instead of the mouse and keyboard.

Tips & Warnings

  • Although optional, a joystick gives you more control and accuracy when using a flycam. Choose a joystick that has dual sticks for maximum control.

  • You can always revert back to controlling the flycam with the mouse and keyboard by disabling joystick control.
