How to Do Retro Hairdos
Hairstyles change rapidly, but often return to fashion years later. Regardless of current styles, imitating retro hairdos can add innumerable possibilities for your hair. For example, pin curls were popular in the 1940s and can be used in short and long hair. Another style from the '40s, the top reverse roll, can be used with medium length hair. The beehive is a hairdo popular in the '60s and can be used in hair that is at least 12 inches long. Try these hairstyles to add some variety to your hair routine. Does this Spark an idea?

Pin Curls
-
1
Wash hair and allow it to dry until it is damp.
-
2
Use a comb to divide hair into 1-inch square sections. Take one section of hair and twist it clockwise around your finger.
-
-
3
Slide the hair off of your finger and pin it flat against your head with a bobby pin. Continue this process until all the sections are twisted.
-
4
Wrap your head with a silk scarf and allow your hair to dry, preferably overnight.
-
5
Remove the scarf and the bobby pins. Loosely arrange the curls with your fingers.
Top Reverse Roll
-
6
Put hair in rollers and allow hair to set. Remove the rollers.
-
7
Use a comb to move one part right above your left eye. Move another part above your right eye. Move a third part across the back of your head. You should now have a rectangular section of hair on the top of your head.
-
8
Brush the rectangular section of hair toward the front of the head. Insert pins on the two sides of the rectangular section.
-
9
Roll the section of hair toward the back of your head, keeping the tips of the hair tucked under the roll. Pin the roll in place at the back of your head.
Beehive

10
Move a section of hair horizontally over the curve of the head that extends from one ear to the other. Secure the top section of hair with a clip.
-
11
Tease the bottom section of hair. Spray hairspray at the roots to add stability.
-
12
Hold the bottom section of hair with your right hand and slowly twist it. Use the left hand to guide the twist upward toward the top of the head. Pin in place with bobby pins and apply hair spray.
-
13
Tease the front section of hair and use a brush to smooth the hair back. Tuck the hair into the bottom section of hair. Use bobby pins to secure any loose pieces.
