How Do I Antique Metals?
You can create a new look with your metals by antiquing them. This is the process of manipulating the metals with sandpaper and paint to give it a finish of something that is an antique. Certain antiques can be expensive depending on the model and year of distribution. You can create an antique look inexpensively to match with more traditional decor yourself.

1
Scrape away any rust from the metal with your sandpaper. Dab the metal with a chemical rust cleaner to remove any remaining rust and wipe it away with a clean sponge.
-
2
Scuff the surface with your sandpaper to prepare for painting, but it does not have to be even in smoothness, just as antiques are known to have imperfections.
-
-
3
Apply paint with a sponge brush over your metal. Apply more paint in some areas for an uneven finish. Pat the sponge brush over areas where you want to add more paint.
-
4
Allow the paint to dry. Add more colors with your sponge brush such as rusty orange, brown or red until you achieve the antique look you want.
