1
Examine the power supply. The power cord must be plugged into a wall socket. Check the home fuse box or circuit breaker. Without power, the washer can’t agitate or otherwise operate.
-
2
Check the fill hose. Change the washer in the hose connector if it is damaged or worn. Securely tighten the fill hose to the faucet to prevent leaks. Remove kinks or blockages in the hose. Otherwise, the machine can’t fill up. Replace fill hoses that are damaged and worn. Many manufacturer’s recommend the hoses be changed every five years.

3
Inspect the drain hose and drain. Remove kinks and blockages and ensure the drain hose is seated in the drain correctly. Blockages and an improperly placed drain hose prevent the machine from draining or cause it to leak on the floor.
-
4
Observe proper starting procedure. Pour bleach into the dispenser, add detergent, add the load and close the lid. Set the water level according to the size of the load you are washing. Adjust the temperature knob for the type of material you are washing. Turn the knob to the cycle you require and pull it out. If your washer has buttons instead of a knob, ensure it is completely depressed. If the washer is not set correctly for the items you are washing, the load may not be clean or the machine may not start.
-
5
Examine the lid. The washing machine will agitate only if the lid is closed completely. Remove obstructions from the lid area so it will close.
-
6
Inspect the load. Untangle and spread out the items if they are pushed to one side of the washing tub. The tub will stop and can’t spin or drain if the load is unbalanced.
-
7
Check the suds lock. The lock is triggered when too much detergent has been used. Rewash the load without detergent.
-
8
Inspect the faucets. Turn on the faucets completely. They are connected at the back of the washing machine and if they are not on fully, the washer will be unable to fill with water at the correct temperature.
