How to Use Turkish Symbols in Word

Turkish words include letters with accents and symbols that indicate how to pronounce the word correctly. Computers with English language keyboards do not include keys with Turkish symbol font characters, but all computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system come with language packs for all the main languages, including Turkish. To use Turkish symbols in Microsoft Word documents, first install the Turkish as an additional language in the computer’s Control Panel.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the “Start” button on your computer’s desktop taskbar.

    • 2

Select “Control Panel” in the Start menu. Click “Clock, Language and Region” in the Adjust Your Computer’s Settings window. Click the “Change Keyboards and Other Input Methods” option under the “Region and Language” heading.

    • 3

Click the “Keyboards and Languages” tab in the dialog box. Click the “Change Keyboards” button, then click the “Add” button. This opens the Add Input Language dialog box.

    • 4

Scroll through the alphabetical list of additional language services. Double-click on the “Turkish (Turkey)” option.

    • 5

Click and select the check box next to “Keyboard.” Click the “OK” button to store your changes. This adds the Turkish language pack to your computer, so that you can access Turkish symbol font characters from Microsoft Word and other programs installed on your computer.

    • 6

Right-click on an empty area of the computer’s desktop taskbar. Click “Toolbars” followed by “Language Bar” from the context menu. This displays the language button in the desktop taskbar.

    • 7

Launch Microsoft Word and open a new or existing Word document. To use Turkish symbol font characters in the document, click the language button in the computer’s desktop taskbar to select the Turkish keyboard option.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once you have finished using the Turkish option in Microsoft Word, click the language button in the computer’s desktop taskbar to return to the standard English language keyboard. Switch between the two languages by clicking the language button.
