How to Make Halftones in Illustrator
With Adobe Illustrator, you can quickly turn your artwork into a comic book-style halftone. By using the software's "Place" function, you can even import images that you've worked on in Photoshop or other photo manipulation software and turn them into halftones. When you do this, Illustrator will allow you to change the image's size to fit the artboard or to fit within a predetermined space in it. You can also create halftones that cause your images to mimic billboards from close up by changing the pixel width of each dot.

Tips & Warnings
The "Screen Angles" boxes determine the size and position of each circle. Each "Channel" corresponds to a color. Channel 1 is red, Channel 2 is green and Channel 3 is blue. If you are working with a black and white image, you will use only Channel 1.
To create a black and white halftone, click "Edit," "Edit Colors," "Recolor Artwork" and then "Grayscale" after you import the image.
The number that you input into the "Max Radius" box determines the size in pixels of each dot. 15 is an arbitrary size. Experiment with different sizes to create the perfect effect for your needs.
