How to Fix a Gum Zapper
The gum zapper is a machine that's meant to remove gum more easily. With a safe, citrus based chemical, the machine breaks up gum and then it's up to you to brush it out of the fabric where it has adhered. The gum zapper comes with a full sized drill mechanism in larger versions. If you have problems with the gum zapper, there's a basic checklist of things you should look into before you decide to replace the machine.

1
Make sure the gum zapper was turned on and that everything is connected. Check that the power switch isn't catching, and see if you're getting power to the device. As with any other sort of drill that has an electric motor, a lack of power may mean the battery is dying or dead.

2
Replace or charge the battery. If a new battery doesn't solve the problem then examine the moving parts. Use your hands to try and turn the pieces, and watch them while you try to use the gum zapper. Look for parts that are jammed in the way, preventing the device from working properly.

Replace the gum zapper. If you cannot determine what's wrong with the model you have, and it isn't fixed it by replacing the power source or the zapper chemical, then you need to replace the defective model with a new gum zapper.

Tips & Warnings
Check your owner's manual for troubleshooting tips and diagrams of your gum zapper's parts.
You don't need the drill portion of the tool to clean up gum. It's the chemical solution that breaks up the gum. Once you've poured the solution onto the gum and broken it up, you can wipe it up by hand.
