How to Control the Depth of PCB Engraving
Printed circuit board engraving, often referred to as PCB, is the method of cutting or engraving materials such as copper circuit boards, plastic and acrylic materials. An engraving machine connects to a computer which controls the cutting pattern with software. The engraving is completed with a cutting tool attached to the tip of a spindle inside the machine. The spindle moves on all axes, including “Z,” which is depth. Adjust the depth of the cut using the computer’s keyboard.

Inspect all cable connections between the PCB engraver and the computer. All cables should be fully inserted into the proper ports. Clear the space in front of the vents and close all access panels.
-
2
Flip the power switch to the “On” position.

3
Power on the computer and open the PCB engraver software. The software should automatically detect the PCB engraver connection and give you control of the machine.
-
4
Open the main access door on the engraver and insert the material that is to be cut. Close the door.
-
5
Click on the selected engraving pattern of your choice.
-

Tips & Warnings
The instructions in this article are for the Denford PCB engraver. The "Page Up" and "Page Down" keys are the "Jog Keys" used to control the depth of the spindle. If you use a different machine or edited the "Jog Keys" on the software, you may need to press a different key to adjust the depth of the spindle.
