How to Attach a Wedding Lapel Flower
The wedding lapel flower — also called the French name "boutonniere" and a "button-hole flower" by the British — is placed on a man's lapel for his wedding. Traditionally, the flower was supposed to ward off bad smells, disease and evil spirits. The basic design of the lapel flower is often a small arrangement of one or two flower buds wrapped in green floral tape; however, design's vary according to each groom's preference.

1
Center the flower on the left lapel. The flower is traditionally worn on the left side because it is above the heart. Position the flower about four inches from the tip of the left shoulder.
-
2
Insert one hand behind the lapel to prevent sticking the pin through the jacket entirely. Hold the lapel flower with the buds facing outward and the stems facing downward.

3
Insert a pearl-headed pin through the right side of the floral tape that is wrapped around the bottom stems of the lapel flower. Press the pin through the floral tape and fabric of the lapel to secure it to the jacket.
-
4
Maneuver the pin through the jacket lapel slightly, then weave it back through the jacket and into the left side of the floral tape. It is okay if the pin sticks out slightly from the floral tape. Pinning may take one or two attempts to accomplish.

5
Adjust the flower on the lapel by straightening it or fluffing the flowers.

Tips & Warnings
If more than one man is wearing a lapel flower, make sure all the flowers are on the same side of the lapel.
Use a corsage pin to hold the lapel flower into place if a pearl-headed pin is not available.
