How to Make Your Own Bridal Shower Favor Boxes
A bridal shower is traditionally a ladies-only event, which brings together friends and family. The party usually has a romantic theme, equipped with a color scheme, menu, activities and party favors. Decorative boxes can be used to house the party favors, holding anything from tea light candles to candy. Though there are ready-made boxes available to purchase, a bride can make her own party parcel using a couple of origami folding techniques. These handmade favor boxes have lids to keep the treats secure and are accented with a bow made from coordinating ribbon.
Things You'll Need
- Decorative paper (6 by 6 inches)
- Cellophane (6 by 6 inches)
- Tea light candles (optional)
- Paper confetti (optional)
- Chocolates (optional)
- Miniature cakes (optional)
- Ribbon

1
Place the piece of paper, decorative side down, before folding the square in half, first lengthwise and then widthwise. Open up the paper, and as a result there should be an imprint of four smaller squares, which will be the foundation for the box’s folding template.
-
2
Fold the corners of the square towards the center, following the previously folded template. While these corners are still joined at the center, fold the two straight sides of the square toward the center. Next, unfold these two creases and repeat with the other two parallel sides. These folds will help create the three-dimensional box shape.

3
Open up one of the corners. There should be a crease running across the triangle, about 1/2 inch from the triangle’s top. Additionally there should be two smaller fold lines from this top crease to the base of the triangle. Below the triangle’s base should be another folded mark, about 1/2 inch down, which will be the box’s bottom edge.
-
4
Push in the sides between the triangle’s base and the fold for the box’s edge. This should cause the side of the box to stand and the triangle’s top to point upward. Fold the top of the triangle down, along the base crease, creating a straight edge. Press the tip of the triangle into the box, helping it to lie flat along the box’s edge and bottom. As a result half of the box’s shape should be formed
-
5
Apply these folding techniques to the other parallel side, pressing the two edges along the triangle’s base and the base of the box inward, causing the box’s wall to stand up. Fold the triangle down, and smooth out its edge inside the box.
-
6
Repeat this folding process with the cellophane to create an identical box, which will be used for the lid.
-
7
Fill the box with one tea light candle and sprinkle it with confetti. A chocolate truffle and miniature cake are other favor box options. Once the box is filled, cover it with the cellophane lid, tucking the edges into the bottom box. Tie a piece of ribbon around the box to finish the bridal shower favor box.

Tips & Warnings
Decorative paper can be substituted for cellophane, to produce a lid that is not see-through.
