A vacuum cleaner is an essential appliance in the home, especially if you have carpeting. This dirt-sucking machine doesn’t come cheap, though, so it is essential that you take care of it properly. Take the right steps in preserving the motor in your vacuum cleaner to ensure that it lasts as long as possible. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Clean the roller brush each time you use the vacuum cleaner. Lay the vacuum flat and pull out any thread, lint, strings or other debris from the brush. This debris causes the machine to work harder, thereby putting more strain on the motor.
-
2
Empty the vacuum bag or canister when it is half full. Waiting for the bag or canister to fill up completely can cause dirt and debris to be pushed inside of the machine.

3
Inspect the belt frequently. Replace the belt every three months or if the belt is broken, worn, loose or cracked. Make sure to put the belt on correctly according to the vacuum cleaner manufacturer’s instruction. Damaged belts, or belts placed on the vacuum cleaner incorrectly, can cause excessive wear on the motor.

4
Check the filters on the vacuum cleaner periodically and replace them when they are filled with hair, lint and other debris, or as often as recommended by the vacuum cleaner manufacturer. Refer to your owner’s manual for instructions on changing the filter.
