How to Make a Hairpin of Peacock Feathers

Cut the feather just below the outermost ring of color.

Peacock feathers make lovely hair ornaments. Perhaps it is the thin bits of trailing feather that extend out all around. The feather's black and golden colors partially blend with any hair color giving the hair a bit of movement. Additionally, the iridescent blue eye is anything but subtle. Hairpins are useful when you want everything but the feather to disappear into an upswept hair style. An ornament must be attached to the very end of a hairpin if you want the fastener to be useful.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut off the top of the feather. The top of the feather is the portion with the eye.

    • 2

Use double-stick tape to stick the eye of the feather to the top of a flat shank button.

    • 3

Thread a needle with strong thread and tie the other end of the thread to the bend of a hairpin.

    • 4

Thread the feather button onto the needle.

    • 5

Attach the button onto the hairpin by wrapping the thread around the pin and through the shank of the button several times. Knot the thread around the hairpin close to the button and cut off the excess thread.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make three hairpins and scatter them along the side of your hairdo.
