How to Build a Temporary Wedding Tent

How to Build a Temporary Wedding Tent thumbnail
Construct one or more temporary tents for your special day.

Whether your wedding ceremony or reception takes place in your own backyard, on the beach or at the park, a temporary wedding tent provides a romantic backdrop. The tent also provides shelter from harsh sun and light rains. Building supplies are available at your local home improvement and fabric stores, and assembly takes a short time when working together with another adult. After construction, you can decorate your tent with as much whimsy and romantic detail as you desire.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Set out all of the building supplies for your wedding tent on a level site clear of any obstacles. Separate the leg poles from the roof poles.

    • 2

Slide the roof pole ends into the connector pieces and join the roof poles together to assemble the roof frame. Face the anchor washers toward the inside of the roof frame and keep the straight side of the connector pieces parallel to the ground.

    • 3

Lay the white fabric canopy over the roof frame. Fasten one corner of the canopy to the roof frame with a bungee cord. Repeat for the remaining corners.

    • 4

Elevate one side of the roof frame with a partner and insert the leg poles into the connector pieces. Repeat for the opposite side of the frame.

    • 5

Stake each corner leg pole with two ropes, approximately 3 1/2 feet away from the pole, to secure the tent. Stake each center pole with one rope. Anchor the poles with sand bags for additional support, if desired.

    • 6

Decorate the tent poles and the interior of the tent canopy with white lights, securing them to the frame with white plastic twist ties.
