How to Do a Two-Handed Backhand Tennis Stroke thumbnail
Tennis is a skill that takes time and practice.

A two-handed tennis stroke will give you a shorter backswing and a quick and powerful return of serve. This technique is used primarily when the ball is close to the body. This stroke takes practice, but with dedication and patience you can master the two-handed backhand.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn your shoulders back as you pull your racquet back to make the stroke.

    • 2

Position your dominant hand on the grip as you turn your shoulders back.

    • 3

Slide your non-dominant hand down the forehand grip. Touch your hands together but do not overlap them.

    • 4

Cross over with your non-dominant foot and move your body towards the ball.

    • 5

Move your front shoulder downward. Prepare to swing as the ball bounces.

    • 6

Move the racquet over your head as you swing.

    • 7

Complete the swing by moving the racquet up and over the opposite shoulder.
