How to Make a Living by Selling Kids' Clothes on Consignment
Kids change their clothing sizes each season and sometimes may not get to wear some of the clothes you buy for them. Perhaps you can make a living from selling kids clothes on consignment. Consignment shops accept kids’ clothes for resale, but they look for designer and high-end labels because they sell better. These shops are ideal for used formal clothes and they make it easy and convenient for you to earn a living. When you consign clothes, you are actually lending them to a retail store owner. They are displayed in the store, and when they are sold you receive a certain percentage. This percentage depends on the consignment store you select and the kind of clothes you offer.

1
Visit several consignment stores in your area and evaluate their feel. Select a store that people will want to visit on a frequent basis. Check the kids' clothes displayed in the stores and their prices.
-
2
Select a consignment store that deals in the kind of kids' clothes that you have. If you have western-style clothes, you will not get a lot of profits from a consignment store that offers hip-hop clothing.
-
-
3
Check your kids' closets for clothes they no longer use. If you do not have children, get used clothes from friends and family members. The clothes you select should be in good condition, free of stains and rips.
-
4
Wash the kids’ clothes you select and iron them. The clothes you present to consignment stores should look as new as possible.
-
5
Set up an appointment with the consignment store you select to sell your clothes. During the appointment, the store owner will review all the kids’ clothes you have and let you know if they will be able to sell. This is the best time to discuss the price you want for the clothes. During the price discussion, you should be reasonable even if some of the items have not been worn, because shoppers visit consignment stores in search of clothing deals. This means you cannot resell the items at retail prices.
-
6
Deliver the clothes to the consignment stores and ensure they are displayed in an area that gets a lot of customer traffic. Your clothes are more likely to sell if they are in the window display.
-
7
Set a specific period of time within which the consignment store should sell the clothes you deliver. The store you select should agree to your terms, because unsold inventory results in less income for you. The agreement you make with the store should be in writing. The agreement you make should clearly state the payment schedule and where the store will display your clothes.
