How to Make a Header on Gimp

How to Make a Header on Gimp thumbnail
Create a header for your blog or website using GIMP.

GIMP is a free graphics editing software that allows users to create and edit images. It has many capabilities similar to Adobe PhotoShop and Corel PaintShop Pro, such as filters and layers. You can use GIMP to make a header -- the graphic at the top of a website that displays its name -- for your blog or website to make it appear more professional and inviting to readers.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open GIMP.

    • 2

Click "File," then "New Image" to open a new, blank image. Make the canvas width around 800 pixels, the standard computer resolution and the height as tall as you wish. Most headers are around 200 pixels.

    • 3

Paint the background the same color as the background of the website using the paint bucket tool. If you want the background of the header to be an image, paste the image into the header and resize it until it looks as you wish.

    • 4

Click on the "T" on the toolbar to use the text tool. Type the name of the website. Use a fun font to draw attention to the header and choose colors that complement the background of the header.

    • 5

Click "File," then "Save" to save the header image. Go to the editing section of your website and upload the header image.
