DIY Firepit Screen

Gathering around a fire pit with family and friends is an ideal way to spend an evening, but when sparks from the pit begin to fly out, it can be unpleasant and even hazardous. Fortunately, you can resolve the problem of sparks or embers flying out from the fire pit by making a screen for it. A screen fire pit screen is a simple metal cover that rests on top of the fire pit. Select a metal hardware mesh that will complement the overall design of the fire pit. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the metal hardware mesh over the top of your fire pit. Center the mesh so that it completely covers the fire pit.

    • 2

Trace around the top outside edge of the fire pit onto the hardware mesh with a permanent marker.

    • 3

Remove the hardware mesh from the top of the fire pit, and place it flat on a work surface. Cut out the marked outline of the permanent marker from the hardware mesh using metal snips.

    • 4

Rest the cut screen over the top of the fire pit. Center the screen over the opening so that the outside edges of the screen are flush with the outside edges of the fire pit.

Tips & Warnings

  • Select a metal mesh in the same metal as your fire pit hardware. For example, if you have an aluminum fire pit ring, you would use a metal hardware mesh made from aluminum.

  • Wear eye protection when cutting hardware mesh to prevent possible injury.
