How to Edit GECK Models in Blender
Game aficionados mod out their games with the Garden of Eden Creation Kit - a "Fallout" development tool Bethesda has released for the game's fans. "Fallout: New Vegas" is the latest in the post apocalyptic series from Bethesda software. Set in a land that has weathered atomic devastation by using fallout shelters, "Fallout" mixes dark humor with classic science fiction. Many use Blender, a free modeling and animation program, to create terrain, characters, items, weapons and armor to load into the GECK to make custom Fallout scenarios.

1
Visit the GNU Image Manipulation Program website. Blender does not support the GECK's native texture format: Direct Draw Surface (DDS). Two more programs need to be added. GIMP is a plug-in for Blender. It adds more file diversification to Blender unfortunately it also needs a plug-in to support DDS.
-
2
Download and install the DDS plug-in. The default directory is "blender/plugins." Register the two new plug-ins by restarting Blender.

-
3
Navigate to "Fallout: New Vegas" file directory. Blender can only modify the game's texture files - fur, armor, skin, gloss or glow. Open and edit the DDS file of your choice with Blender's multi-texture and texture blending modes.
-
4
Continue editing the files for your new scenario. Return to the GECK and build it. Test thoroughly before running n Fallout.
