How to Make a Beaded Bookmark for Kids
Homemade beaded bookmarks add glitz to otherwise ordinary book pages. Make these bookmarks with kids as a craft that can be completed with little skill. Children will develop fine-motor skills while braiding and beading the ribbons. Fashion bookmarks as a group activity at a sleepover for a keepsake from the night. Set up a beaded bookmark station at your child's birthday party for guests to make their own bookmark. Create bookmarks, using charm beads based on holidays, such as Christmas or Hanukkah, to give as gifts.

1
Cut 1/4-inch-wide ribbon that is satin or grosgrain in three 16-inch lengths.
-
2
Hold the strips of ribbon so the ends are even. Tie one end of the ribbons together in a knot that is 2 inches from the ends. Thread one pony bead on each of the ribbons on the 2-inch-long ends of the ribbons. Tie a knot in each of the ribbons on the ends to secure the beads in position.

3
Tape the beaded end to a work desk using masking tape. Hold the long ends of the ribbons taut; braid the ribbons until you reach 4 inches from the end of the ribbons. Tie the three ribbons together in a knot to secure the braid.
-
4
Thread two pony beads on each of the ends of three ribbons. Add a charm bead to each of the ribbons. Add two additional pony beads to each of the ribbons below the charm. Tie the end of each ribbon in a knot to secure the beads.
-
5
Trim away the excess ribbons from the outer beads to clean up the ends of the bookmark. Use the bookmark by placing the braided ribbon across the pages of a book near the spine, so the beads extend out the ends of the book.
