The Barnes and Noble Nook eReader lets users buy, read and borrow Nook books directly on the device. Users control the device using a combination of a touchscreen interface and physical buttons on the sides of the eReader. Like any electronic device, however, the Nook may freeze up on you while you are using it. If this happens, there are two troubleshooting methods that you can use to unfreeze the screen.

Instructions

  1. Power Button Reset

    • 1

      Press and hold the "Power" button on top of the Nook for 20 seconds.

      Release the "Power" button after the 20 seconds are up.

    • 3

      Press the "Power" button a second time to turn your Nook back on.

    Battery Pull Reset

    • 4

      Press and hold the "Power" button on top of the Nook to shut the device off.

    • 5

      Remove the Nook's back cover and locate the screen holding the Nook's battery in place.

      Unscrew the screw with a Phillips-head screwdriver and lift and remove the battery from the battery compartment.

    • 7

      Leave the battery out of the Nook for 30 seconds. After the 30 seconds are up, insert the battery back into the battery compartment and replace the screw that was holding it in place.

    • 8

      Replace the back cover and press the "Power" button to turn on the Nook.
