How to Decorate a Door With Fairy Tales

Various fairy tales can inspire your decor.

Whether you are decorating your own door or your child’s door, there are a number of options for fairy tale themes. By placing your ideas on a door in your home, you're putting the final touch to your bedroom theme before you even enter into the room. There are a couple different ways to go about decorating your door with fairy tales. Regardless of the method you choose, the end result adds personality to your space.

Instructions

Fairy Tale

1. Pick the fairy tale you want to use for the theme on your door. You don't have to have one main character. Instead, have multiple characters or none at all if the background is conclusive of the theme.

   Opt to have both Belle and Beast on the door, if the theme for your fairy tale is "Beauty and the Beast." To omit the characters and only have a background, place the infamous staircase on the door as the main picture.

2. Add the background of the main picture. If you're simply creating an image of a background, such as that of the staircase, this Step is omitted. If you choose to have multiple characters, incorporate pictures of the other characters in the fairy tale. With "Beauty and the Beast," other characters include Featherduster, Mrs. Potts, Chip, Cogsworth and Lumiere.

3. Provide finishing touches to your fairy tale door, such as specks of glitter for a princess theme.

Fairy Tale Character

1. Pick the fairy tale character you wish to use as the main part of the theme. When making your decision, consider all the colors involved and whether or not they're colors you want to use for the rest of the space.

2. Draw, paint or attach a picture of the main character onto the center of the door. Another idea for character placement is to place the character’s image on the side of the door as if it's welcoming you into the room.

3. Decorate the background of the door. You're essentially creating a mural, so look for related objects and complementary colors to place behind the character. If the main character is Cinderella, draw a picture of the prince in the background chasing her with a glass slipper.

4. Use colors for the background that make the main picture stand out. You can opt to have the background one solid color or incorporate a rainbow of colors that enhance the fairy tale theme of the door.
