How to Troubleshoot a CAC Card
A Common Access Card is used by many organizations like the military as a personal identification card to access secured facilities and computer information. To use a CAC card, you swipe the card through a CAC reader and the personal information on the card is read and access is granted. The card uses a magnetic strip, much like the information on a credit card, to store information.

1
Check the card for distortion or creases. If the card has been bent or folded and the outer plastic cover is damaged, then the magnetic field inside may also be damaged. This means your card needs to be replaced.

2
Swipe a different CAC card into the CAC reader to confirm that the CAC reader is working. If you use the same reader with a different card and it works, then you know you have a bad card. If it doesn't work with a different card, it could be the reader.
