1
Allow the wall to cure for three days after painting. Writing on or cleaning the chalkboard wall before this time can damage the paint job.
-
2
Condition the chalkboard wall after it has cured. Hold a piece of chalkboard chalk on its side and rub the chalk all over the wall so the entire surface is covered with chalk. Erase the chalk with an eraser. This will coat the wall with chalk dust, making it easier to erase.

3
Use regular chalkboard chalk when writing on the wall. Avoid using sidewalk chalk on the wall as these contain oils and waxes that can be difficult to erase.
-
4
Clean the chalkboard wall with a damp rag to remove chalk that won’t come off with a dry eraser. Wipe over the surface with a dry rag to remove the moisture.
-
5
Use felt erasers on your chalkboard wall. These are soft enough not to scratch the surface.
-
6
Deep clean the wall periodically with a mixture of ½ cup white vinegar and 1 gallon of warm water. Wipe down the entire wall with a soft rag and the vinegar solution. Remove the moisture from the wall with a dry rag.
-
7
Repaint the wall when the surface becomes dull. The paint may begin to peel or the finish may start to look dull. When this happens, clean the wall thoroughly with the vinegar and water solution, let it dry and apply a fresh coat of paint. Use a ¼-inch medium-nap roller to apply the chalkboard paint.
