How to Crochet Tassels
Giving your homemade blanket or scarf a beautiful finish will show how much attention you put into your projects. Adding tassels, the stringy fringe commonly found on the ends of blankets and scarves, may be the perfect solution. Although tassels may look complicated, using a crochet hook to add tassels is simple.

1
Decide how long and full you will make the tassels. Double the desired measurement to determine how long to cut the yarn. For example, if you want 3-inches tassels, you will need 6-inch lengths of yarn. To determine the ideal fullness, keep in mind the yarn you're looking at will be folded, so one strand of yarn will count as two strands within the tassel.
-
2
Measure and cut yarn to desired length. If you are creating a short tassel, cut the strands to at least 4 inches to make it easier to crochet the slip knot. You can shorten the tassels later. Match up the ends of yarn.

3
Insert the crochet hook into the stitch on the project that the tassel will be attached to. The size of the crochet hook depends on how loosely or tightly the project was created. Any size will work, as long as it can comfortably fit through the stitch without stretching it.
-
4
Fold the yarn strands in half, finding the middle and creating a loop. Grab the loop with the crochet hook, ensuring that all strands are together and securely on the hook. If there are too many strands to fit on the hook, you will have to increase the crochet hook size or decrease the amount of yarn strands used in your tassel.
-
5
Pull the hook and loop through the stitch about half way. Ensure that all of the yarn strands are together and the loop is well-defined. Keep the crochet hook in the loop.
-
6
Push the crochet hook further through the loop and grab all of the strand ends. Pull the ends through the loop, creating a slip knot.
-
7
Use the crochet hook and your hand to pull the slip knot tight in the stitch. Adjust the knot as needed to make it tight and straight.
-
8
Cut the tassel shorter, if necessary. Gather the yarn ends together and snip them with scissors. Spread out the ends, creating a full tassel. Continue working along your project, crocheting as many tassels as needed.
