An Apple TV is not a computer but it can still experience problems like a computer, such as freezing. Under normal circumstances, you can use an Apple TV to download or stream content from Apple iTunes or supported video streaming services. If the device is freezing or any other issue is affecting your ability to view content on the device, resetting or restoring your Apple TV will solve the problem.

Instructions

  1. Reset

    • 1

      Use a white Apple remote. Press the "Menu" and "Menu Down/Scroll" buttons simultaneously and hold them for six seconds. Release both buttons when the LED light on the Apple TV continuously flashes. Your Apple TV resets.

      Use an aluminum remote. Press the "Menu" and "Down" buttons at the same time and hold them for six seconds. Release both of the buttons when the Apple TV's LED light flashes rapidly. The device is reset.

      Unplug the power cable from the Apple TV and leave it unplugged for 30 seconds, then plug it back in to reset the device.

    Restore

      Select "Settings" from your Apple TV's main screen, then select "General."

      Select "Reset," then choose "Restore." The Apple TV restores to its original factory settings. If you have a micro USB cable, you can also use iTunes to restore your Apple TV. Disconnect all of the cables from the Apple TV, then connect the Apple TV to your computer with the micro USB cable.

      Launch iTunes on your computer, then click "Apple TV" under "Devices" on the left side of the window.

      Click the "Restore" button to restore the Apple TV.
