How to Log In to Pix 501
Use the Cisco PIX 501 firewall appliance to protect small businesses and branch offices that require a reliable firewall that integrates with an existing Cisco network. Setup the Cisco PIX 501 using the Web based interface which is more intuitive than the command line. Use a Web browser to connect and log in to a Cisco PIX firewall appliance for both configuration and status updates.
Things You'll Need
- Microsoft Windows 7 computer
- Ethernet network patch cable
- Credentials of an account that has permissions to log in to the Cisco PIX 501

Plug one end of the Ethernet network patch cable into the Ethernet network port on the Windows 7 computer. Connect the other end of the Ethernet patch cable into one of the four LAN ports labeled from one through four on the Cisco PIX 501.

Click the “Start” button on the Windows 7 taskbar and click “Search” and type “ncpa.cpl” in the “Search” box. Press the “Enter” key. The “Network Connections” window will appear.

Right-click on the network connection that is connected to the Cisco PIX 501 and click “Properties” in the menu that appears. Click once on the “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” item and click “Properties.

Click the “Obtain an IP address automatically” radio button and click the “Obtain DNS server address automatically” radio button. Click the “OK” button, then click “OK” in the “Properties” window.

Click the “Start” button on the Windows 7 taskbar and click “Internet Explorer.” Click once in the address bar near the top of the “Windows Internet Explorer” window and type “https://192.168.1.1/startup.html” into the address bar. Tap the “Enter” key.

Type the user name and password of an account that has permissions to log in to the Cisco PIX 501 into the Web page that appears. If this is the first time logging in to the Cisco PIX 501, press the “Enter” key when the login Web page appears, and do not enter a user name and password.
