How to Charge a Desk Pet

Desk Pet robots come in many forms and sizes and include tank-style Tankbots, wheeled Trekbots and six-legged insect Skitterbots. A Desk Pet runs on a rechargeable lithium-ion polymer battery. Most Desk Pets charge when plugged into a USB port on an electronic device attached to a power source. The method to connect and then charge the device depends on the model. Some Desk Pets have a pre-attached USB connector. Some have a separate USB charger and controller that you must first attach to your Desk Pet and then plug into a port.

Instructions

  1. Pre-Attached USB Connector

    • 1

Locate the USB connector. For example, on the Tankbot the USB connector is a rectangular piece resting vertically on the back.

    • 2

Extend the USB connector. Using the Tankbot again as the example, place your finger on the top of the USB connector and flip the connector down.

    • 3

Push the USB connector on your Desk Pet into a USB port on an electronic device attached to a power source to charge it.

    • 4

Wait for your Desk Pet to fully charge. This is typically within 30 to 40 minutes. If you have the Tankbot, the Tankbot's lights, instead of a charging LED, come on during the charging cycle and turn off when it's finished charging.

    • 5

Unplug your Desk Pet from the electronic device and return the USB connector to its original position.

    USB Charger/Controller

    • 6

Plug the USB charger and controller charging cable into your Desk Pet. If you have any difficulties, check the position of the arrow on the plug. For example, if you have the Trekbot, the arrow should face up; and if you have the Skitterbot, the arrow should face down.

    • 7

Locate the slide switch on the side of the USB controller and recharger and slide it up to reveal the USB connector.

    • 8

Plug the connector into a compatible USB port on an electronic device plugged into a power source. The charging indicator on your Desk Pet will turn on.

    • 9

Wait for your Desk Pet to charge and the charging indicator to turn off.

    • 10

Unplug the USB controller and charger from the USB port and the charging cable from your Desk Pet.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have the Desk Pets Rock, simply place it in light to recharge it. It is solar-powered.

  • If your Desk Pet won't charge, check the position of the USB connector in the port to confirm you plugged it in correctly. If the connection isn't the issue, push the "Reset" button on your Desk Pet and try charging it again.

  • You must typically recharge a Desk Pet after every 15 minutes of continuous use.

  • Some Desk Pets such as the Trekbots and Skitterbots only take 30 minutes to recharge. Others can take longer. For example, the Tankbot takes 40 minutes.
