How to Make a Flower Bridal Veil

Embellish your wedding veil to match your bouquet.

Wedding veils with flowers gracing the comb add a bit of youthful elegance. For this you can choose almost any silk or fabric flowers measuring 1 inch or less. If you wish to adorn the hem or body of the veil with lightweight flowers, you can do so after the veil is sewn to the comb. When selecting the length for your veil, remember that blusher veils are 24 inches in length, elbow-length veils are 30, fingertip veils are 40, chapel veils are 72 and cathedral veils are 108 inches long. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Fold your fine netting in half lengthwise and measure the length required by the veil type you want. Cut away the excess and round the corners of the bottom hem for a smooth, gradual finish.

    • 2

Unfold the netting and place the top edge of the veil under the sewing machine's presser foot. Ease stitch across the edge. Ease stitching is done with the widest stitch possible on your sewing machine and without knotting the beginning or ending stitches.

    • 3

Pull the loose ends of the thread taut to gather the netting. Continue gathering the fabric until it measures the same width as the comb. Pin the gathers in place and sew, knotting the ends this time.

    • 4

Place the gathered edge of the veil against the comb, ensuring the comb's teeth point up and away from the veil. Using the nylon thread, sew the comb to the veil. Weave the thread over the comb's bridge and through its teeth to ensure stability.

    • 5

Fold the comb under the veil so the hem and teeth both point toward you. Pull the veil's netting taut against the bridge of the comb and position the fabric flowers on top of the comb.

    • 6

Sew the flowers in place, again using the nylon thread. Sew them so they face outward, as this will hide any stems.

    • 7

Scatter small flowers down the length of the veil, if desired. Sew them from the bottom of the veil so that they lie flush against the netting's surface.
