How to Make a Dog Bed Without a Sewing Machine
Dog beds provide your pets with their own resting places and help you maintain a clean, comfortable home. By making your own dog bed you can save money and build the bed to your furry friend’s own specifications. You can do the job easily enough without a sewing machine. With a quick trip to your local crafts store you’ll be able to gather all of the supplies you can't find around the house.
Things You'll Need
- Large pillow sham
- Pillow stuffing (old bed pillow or throw pillows)
- Self-adhesive hook and loop fasteners
- Basket

1
Determine the size of the bed. You’ll want it to be slightly larger than your dog. Refer to a sizing chart for pillow cases so you know which size will fit your dog best.
-
2
Stuff your dog’s pillow sham through the back opening until it is thoroughly padded. Make sure it is filled enough to keep your dog from touching the ground, but not overstuff the pillow sham.

Lay your pillow sham face down, with the back opening facing upward. Peel the adhesive backing off of your hook and loop fasteners. Apply one strip of the hook and loop fasteners on the inside lip of your pillow sham’s opening. Apply another strip of hook and loop fasteners on the inner lip opposite to where you’ve just placed the other strip. The two strips should be lined up so that they will fasten to one another, sealing the back opening closed. This will prevent stuffing from escaping your dog bed.

Place your new dog pillow inside of your basket. Be sure that the side of the pillow with the opening that you just sealed is facing downward.

Tips & Warnings
When buying the right basket for your dog, consider something that is shallow and low to the ground so that your dog will be able to get in and out easily.
Loose pillow stuffing could cause your pet to choke. Ensure that the pillow sham is sealed on the underside of your dog bed.
