How to Replace a Speaker in a Fender Champ Xd
The Fender Champ is a popular compact solid-state combo. It features a 5-watt power stage with a diode rectifier. Combined with its small footprint and 8-inch speaker, this makes it a fitting choice as a bedroom-practice amplifier. Its low power rating means it can be cranked up to gain a satisfying overdrive without irritating neighbors. The Champ's solid-state design makes it tough and hard wearing, but it is still possible to blow out or damage the speaker. Fortunately, this can easily be replaced.

1
Disconnect the amplifier from the power supply and flip the power switch on and off two to three times. This ensures that all residual charge is drained from the amplifier, removing the possibility of an electric shock.
-
2
Access the rear of the speaker through the opening on the rear of the amplifier case. Use the screwdriver to remove all 12 screws surrounding the metal cage, which holds the speaker to the front panel, and allow it to rest on the floor of the cabinet. You may need to hold onto it to prevent it from tipping backward and yanking on the audio leads.

3
Slide off the spade connectors that join the speaker to the head unit at the top of the amplifier and lift the speaker fully clear of the cabinet. It can be tricky to rotate the speaker to move it clear of the cabinet through the relatively small hole. Try to keep the large magnet at the rear of the speaker as far away from the upper amp head as possible.

4
Slide the new speaker into the cabinet through the opening at the rear. Move it into position over the circular hole at the front. Rotate the speaker so the spade connectors are at the noon position, allowing you to connect the leads. Replace the screws, reconnect the audio leads and test the amplifier.
