How to Port Forward Using Vuze Through a Wireless Router

How to Port Forward Using Vuze Through a Wireless Router thumbnail
Routers can forward incoming network traffic to a computer.

The Vuze Bittorrent client requires incoming network traffic to download and upload files at ideal speeds. By default, routers drop incoming network traffic rather than forward it to a specific computer. You can set up a port-forwarding rule in your router’s Web configuration interface to forward the port Vuze requires. While Vuze includes UPnP and NAT-PnP support for automatically forwarding its required ports, some wireless routers don’t support these standards or may have their support disabled.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the “Tools” menu in Vuze and select “Options.” Click the “Connection” option at the left side of the Options window and note the port number displayed in the Incoming TCP/UDP Listen Port box, then close the Options window.

    • 2

Open a command prompt by clicking “Start,” typing “Command Prompt” into the Start menu search box and pressing “Enter.”

    • 3

Type “Ipconfig” into the command prompt and press “Enter.”

    • 4

Note the IP addresses to the right of "IPv4 Address" and "Default Gateway" under "Wireless LAN Adapter" in the Command Prompt window.

    • 5

Type the default gateway IP address into your Web browser’s address bar and press “Enter.” Your wireless router’s login page appears.

    • 6

Sign in to your wireless router’s configuration page using its username and password. Routers often use a default username of “admin” with no password or a password of “admin” with no username. Consult your wireless router’s documentation for its default login information if necessary.

    • 7

Navigate to the “Virtual Server,” “Port Forwarding,” “Custom Services,” or “NAT” page on your router’s configuration page. Different routers use different names for this section; your router may use a different name. Consult your wireless router’s documentation for information on the name of its port-forwarding configuration page, if necessary.

    • 8

Create a new port-forwarding rule by typing “Vuze” into the "Comment" or "Name" box, your computer’s IP address from the"IPv4 Address" field into the IP address box and the port number from Vuze into both the public and private port boxes. Select “Both” for the protocol.

    • 9

Click the “Save Settings” or “Apply” button to save your port-forwarding rule.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use the NAT/Firewall Test tool in Vuze to test if the port is forwarded correctly. Click the “Help” menu in Vuze, select “NAT/Firewall Test” and click the “Test” button.

  • Some routers don’t have a “Both” option for the port-forwarding protocol. Depending on your router, you may have to create two separate rules for the TCP and UDP protocols.
