Needle-nose pliers are used to help secure the jewelry lock to a bracelet.

A jewelry lock is a small, padlock-shaped charm that's used to decorate many items of jewelry, including necklaces, chokers, anklets and bracelets. Most jewelry locks are designed to be decorative, although some come with a key and can be locked to the item of jewelry. You can easily attach a jewelry lock to a bracelet with a few simple tools available from craft stores or online retailers.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the split in the jump-ring. Grip just underneath the split with the tips of the needle-nose pliers. While still holding the pliers, grip just above the split in the jump-ring with the other pair of needle-nose pliers.

    • 2

Twist the top pliers slightly to create a small opening in the jump-ring.

    • 3

Insert the jewelry onto the jump-ring. Insert the jump ring through a hole in the bracelet chain.

    • 4

Grip the jump-ring with a pair of pliers. Use the other pair of pliers to flatten the jump-ring and close the split; the jewelry lock is now secured to the bracelet.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep your fingers away from the metal end of the pliers.
