A radiator is most commonly used to heat rooms.

A steam heating system uses the transformation between a gas and a liquid to release energy into each room in the building. This is typically done inside the room's radiators, but heat can also be distributed anywhere there are steam pipes in the building. By installing fins on the main steam pipe you reduce the heat for the radiator's downstream possibly resulting in undesired consequences. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Place one section of pipe fin over the top of the pipe. The fin has a curved groove which the top of the pipe fits into.

    • 2

Place the second section of pipe fin over the bottom of the pipe, aligning the two mounting holes. The bottom section also has a groove for the bottom of the pipe to fit into.

    • 3

Insert the provided fastening key through the mounting holes of both fins and twist the key 90 degrees to lock the fins into place.

    • 4

Hold the remaining portion of the key against the wood joist beside the pipe and fasten with the provided screw, into the joist, with a screwdriver. Repeat this process to install the second key in the second mounting hole.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be careful when working around steam pipes as they can be very hot. Performing this task during the summer months, when the heating system is inactive, would be a wise choice.
